First Solar - based in USA

First Solar was founded in 1999 and started commercial production of photovoltaic modules in 2002. The company has grown rapidly and 2009 was believed to be the worlds largest manufacturer of thin film modules, expecting an anual output of over 1100Mw. The company set out to produce a truely clean product at a cost effective price. Their manufacturing cost moved below $1 per watt in 2008, and they recycling facility. Based in Arizona, USA, the company also has production facilities in Germany and Malaysia, and offices throughout North America and Europe.
